Behr Demands Katz Muhl Condemn Ally’s Remarks and Explain Silence on Charlie Kirk’s Murder
NORTHBROOK, Illinois -- The following is a statement from Republican Daniel Behr of Northbrook, candidate for Illinois House District 57:
Since last Wednesday, I have joined others in Prospect Heights, across District 57, and nationwide in mourning the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie grew up here in the 57th District, graduating from Wheeling High School, and many in our community knew him as a volunteer, a teammate, a classmate, a Scout, or a fellow congregant. Today, we continue to grieve with his family, friends, and all who loved him.
Violence has no place in American politics. No matter our disagreements, mocking or celebrating the death of another person is grotesque. When such words come from those entrusted with teaching our children, it is even more disturbing.
Unfortunately, Buffalo Grove teacher Carolyn Pinta crossed the line by making reprehensible social media comments about Charlie’s murder. This type of behavior is completely inappropriate for any person entrusted with the care and education of our children. No parent should have to wonder whether these types of contemptuous thoughts are at work influencing their child’s experience in school.
Rep. Tracy Katz Muhl has aligned herself politically with Ms. Pinta, who endorses, volunteers for, and promotes her campaigns. Yet Rep. Katz Muhl has not offered a single word of condolence to the Kirk family or to the many other District 57 residents who grew up with Charlie. This lack of compassion to her constituents is glaring.
Today I call on Rep. Katz Muhl to do two things:
-
Condemn the hateful remarks made by her close political ally, Carolyn Pinta.
-
Explain why she has not yet addressed Charlie’s murder or offered sympathy to his grieving family and neighbors.
District 57 deserves leaders who show compassion in tragedy, who reject political violence without hesitation, and who put their constituents above their party.
